This year, World Social Work Day is being celebrated under theme “Strengthening Intergenerational Solidarity for Enduring Wellbeing”.
The Minister for Employment and Social Affairs, Mrs. Patricia Francourt, took the opportunity to address the Social Workers to thank them for the incredible work that they do. In her remarks, she also thanked a group of past social workers, who were present at the event, for their valuable contributions. She emphasized on the importance of intergenerational exchange to strengthen practices for the betterment of society.
The celebration commenced with a session of praise and prayers to thank God for Social Workers serving the Community in Seychelles and worldwide. During the morning session, two Social Workers were recognized for their 10 years of service in Social Work. Ms. Nathasia Mathiot and Ms. Tessy Allisop both joined Social Services in 2015 coming from different career paths. Through their unwavering hard work, commitment, and passion for helping others they managed to clock ten years of services.
In addition, staff from Social Services were presented with their certificate following their participation in the Universal Treatment curriculum for substance use disorder training delivered by DSAPTR and a grief and loss session conducted by NCC. A total of 34 staff took part in both trainings. During the activity, Minister Francourt launched the 14th edition of the Social Work in Action Magazine. The magazine highlights the passionate efforts of social workers who make meaningful changes in the lives of individuals, families, and society as a whole.
Dr. Nellie Marie from the Ministry of Health delivered a very engaging and interactive session on the theme “Strengthening Intergenerational Solidarity for Enduring Wellbeing”.
The session was well appreciated by all present as discussion were held on bridging the gap between health and social work and presenting different solutions to tackle various social issues through the use case studies.
During the afternoon, staff enjoyed a stress management workshop delivered by our very own in house psychologist Mrs. Anielle Egekwu.
