On this World Social Work Day, we celebrate the invaluable contributions of social workers worldwide, whose efforts foster social justice, promote equality, and empower vulnerable communities. This year, as we reflect on the theme, “Strengthening Intergenerational Solidarity for Enduring Wellbeing,” we acknowledge that the well-being of individuals and communities is deeply connected across generations.
In Seychelles, intergenerational solidarity is fundamental to our society. The wisdom of our elders and the energy of our youth drive our progress. Strengthening these bonds ensures a better future for all generations. Social workers are essential in bridging divides, fostering dialogue, and creating inclusive societies that prioritize the welfare of all, regardless of age.
From children to elders, we all share the need for security, dignity, and the opportunity to thrive. Social workers help bridge intergenerational gaps, socioeconomic disparities, and shifting social structures. They support families, guide youth, and care for our aging population, ensuring that no one is left behind. Through fostering intergenerational relationships, they promote shared knowledge, mutual respect, and collective responsibility—vital to enduring well-being.
As we recognize the role of social workers, we commit to investing in policies that encourage community-building, multigenerational dialogue, and address the needs of all generations. Social work is not just a profession but a moral calling, requiring compassion, resilience, and a commitment to the dignity of all.
However, they cannot do this alone. As a society, we must do more to strengthen the systems that allow social workers to carry out their mission effectively. I, therefore, call on all stakeholders—government agencies, private sector partners, civil society, and communities—to work together in reinforcing support for social work initiatives. We must strengthen programs that promote intergenerational exchange, improve social services, and provide social workers with the tools they need to make a lasting impact.
To all social workers in Seychelles: thank you for your dedication, compassion, and unwavering commitment to making our society better. Your work is transformative, and today, we celebrate you and the profound contribution you make to our communities.
Happy Social Work Day!
